Best things about Prague

Best things About Prague

During my time here, I’ve seen a lot, done a great deal, learned a whole lot. It’s seldom that I place these specific things into terms, exactly, but I’m gonna attempt. Therefore, listed here are things I’ve discovered from Prague, about Prague and the Czech Republic generally speaking. Hopefully they'll present a window into Czech culture, also.

1) alcohol is good.

2) there are lots of, many different types of alcohol. We accustomed believe alcohol was limited just to “piss” but I’ve since discovered that it comes in many varieties – not just light, dark, wheat, semidark, strawberry, honey an such like in many subtly various flavours.

3) When someone requires “How are you?”, the polite response is not “I’m fine thank you”, but “Ah, i'm like sh*t” or whatever is in your concerns. Being awesome delighted is seen as bragging or being untrue.

4) Seems that Communist/Capitalist thing is far, definately not grayscale. In local elections, the Communist Party simply won lots of ballots. I’ve heard some Czech men and women lamenting the days in which housing and jobs had been safe and for life.

5) Gay Pride is huge right here, and a lot of enjoyable, but adults (aka my students) will however giggle like school children at “gay” jokes and seem surprised to find out that someone is homosexual.

6) lots of Prague residents will escape to a “cottage” (theirs or a friend’s) inside country every weekend (to “the nature”).

7) Czech people be seemingly into camping, hiking, walking, climbing and skiing in excess of virtually any nation I’ve encountered.

8) If you look hard enough and carry a dictionary/translator, you'll find soy milk, gluten-free loaves of bread, vegan restaurants, natural veggies and all that. Typical Czech food, on the other hand, is all meat, mozzarella cheese and stodgy dumplings – good-luck finding vegetables except that cabbage or green beans (and, definitely, potatoes).

9) If you’re around any typical restaurant on a weekday (11am-3pm) you may get soup and a primary dinner for the exact carbon copy of £3 approximately.

10) whenever you enter a restaurant, you sit your self down. Take to asking a waiter for a dining table and they’ll evaluate you as though you’re a weirdo (unless it is a really hectic or touristy spot).

11) It’s perfectly appropriate to drink beer at 11am.

12) The meanest looking young adults can give up their particular seating regarding tram/bus/metro for nice old people, and people old individuals will frequently insist that they’re good standing. This usually leads to a quick exchange of “No, please, we assert” “No, it's fine, you sit down, ” etc. You provide your seat to young ones.

13) Mullets are okay right here – on young ones, on old guys, even on people working for elections.

14) Dogs tend to be permitted everywhere – on the metro, in restaurants, within office when you work. Czech people love puppies (and infants, in addition every-where).

15) virtually every time, someplace in Prague, there’s a random festival taking place with small food and drink stalls, or a great farmer’s market where you are able to get fresh produce.
